This place is the only legit Colombian bakery/restaurant anywhere near DC. Take it from someone who's 100% Colombian and grew up in Miami - the food is good. My favs are the buñuelos, almojabanas, empanadas and the ajiaco soup. Yum!

I really love their empanadas, chorizo with arepas, almohabanas, and platano al horno. I order from them all the time for my company events but I have to say that I really have an issue with paying extra for the aji. I get about 30-60 empanadas and they charge extra for the aji which should come with each empanada. In Colombia aji is free, why is it that we have to pay for it here when it is something like ketchup to a hotdog? Besides that, great location and good food.

La Fonda Paisa is going to be put in the category of order what they have not what's on the menu! Don't get me wrong... The food is awesome! Certain items are only offered on certain days of the week. Like don't go in on a Thursday, like I just did and, expect to get the Colombian Chicken Stew. Battling a cold and knowing that I would be meeting friends later on for adult beverages, I decided to get something into my gut. I follow the sign to the area that states, "Place your order here" Cool! No line! Or maybe not...The place was packed at 11:30 and I was told that it would be just a minute and they would take my order. Tickets were popping out of the printer like crazy! What it seems to me is that people that have been here alot will just go to the register at the door and order first, find a table and devour their food. (Mental note... Order from the door next time.) Like I stated earlier, I wanted the Colombian Chicken Stew. First of all, let me say that I have never been to a Latin American restaurant where you can both enjoy a bout of soup and not get your hands messy. This my friends holds true here too! I finally get to order and I was told that that they didn't have that soup... Head MF Lady In Charge: We don't make that.... Me: I saw it on the menu. HMFLIC: We don't make that today! Me: What do you have? HMFLIC: Sancocho-cola The same thing but with oxtails.. Me: I'll take it! It was going to take a Minute so I grabbed a table in the corner and refrained from using a camera again... This place is a great Bodega! Lots of space but it was used mostly for storage! Literally a dozen 50lb bags of charcoal and it seemed like stacks of flats of sodas ( Oh My!) everywhere! They do the traditional Polla a la Brasa here but it is an after thought. Actually the only bad thing that I have ever had here was that... On to the soup! Basically slabs of braised, fatty oxtails on the bones. potatoes, small slices of corn on the cobb, cassava, tomato, cilantro and a hearty chicken broth.. Latin Pho Fo Me!! I have never eaten Cassava/yucca cooked like this. You are going to have a hard time finding this fresh and I have only had the processed canned version or the frozen counter part...I DON'T CARE!! The slow simmered version absorbs everything!! The texture can be described as eating a baked potato that has been mashed and reformed... If that makes sense! Come get some! Soup $8.50 lemonade $1.60 CHICHARRONES $2.99

Great empanadas when they're made fresh. I've tried multiple places in Southern CA and NYC, and this one is best.

Try the Colombian breakfast that comes with FREE coffee and at a very reasonable price. I always go for the bandeja paisa or the ajiaco (delicious chicken soup). This place is much better than the over priced Colombian Breeze in Gaithersburg.

Good stuff in my neighborhood. I decided today that I don't go frequently enough. I made my way down for lunch because I needed a good home cooked soup. I was looking for hearty but not carby. Filling but not stuffing. I found it - the Colombian Chicken soup. The broth seriously tasted like the chicken carcass was just removed seconds ago. It was so tasty and on point. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. Everything tasted glorious and it hit the spot for my state of unwell being - fighting a mean summer cold. In addition, I think this soup is replacing my pho hangover cure going forward. I've also had breakfast from there (great price point) and lunch - rice with a beef stew. All have been excellent. This is definitely where I go when I'm missing home cooked latin food when I'm too lazy to make it so I can get my fix. I also saw in the grocery part that they have a "pasta de guyaba" (guava paste) a Puerto Rican desert staple from my childhood. If you're looking for something sweet and light, scoop that up, cut a thin piece and lay it on a similar size piece of white cheese. Yum.

Pretty dirty place. Food was not fresh nor authengic Colombian. Asked for rice and beans and got some kind of leftover rice with with veggies mixed with beans. And it didnt have the calentado flavor at all. The arepas were the size of my toddlers hand and frozen kind. Overall bad service and we noticed the local just go there for the bakery goods we were the only ones who sat down in one of the two self service tables to eat. Yuk!! I would keep driving.

I give it 4 stars just for the store, not the food (restaurant). Even the chefs are nor Colombian the people are very nice.

Just a good ole local pastry joint-- Haven't eaten enough hear to give a great review, but from the dessert I did try - a baked, fluffy pastry with milk chocolate on top - I like it! It's pretty simple, but they still do it well.

It is hard to find any good Colombian food places in Maryland, and these place will do until something better comes along. I do like that they have soups and some bakery items. And I really like that they carry the Alpina Avena (oatmeal drink, tastes better than it sounds). Their sancocho is pretty good, and I know I can at least say that their food is waayyyyyy better than the crap that Los Arrieros calls food.

My boyfriend is Colombian and swears by La Fonda. It's a bit of a hike from our apartment in DC, but we often make the trip to get breakfast from the bakery - followed by some authentic Colombian ajiaco (soup). The staff is friendly and they've always had enough of what we're looking for. We only wish they would open a location in DC so it would be closer!

Great place to go to for that great Colombian flavor. It's a small bakery/grocery store. This is one of the only places in the area that has vegetarian empanadas also. You can also reheat the empanadas the next day and they taste the same as the day before. Their service is pretty good. Sometimes I do carryout, other times I eat in, get myself a hot chocolate and my meal. I really enjoy their almojabanas, pandebono, and my meat eating family members love their chicharron. They also have a pastry called chicharron but it does not have meat. :) Their baby back ribs look delicious. They have a lot of delicious meals, you just tell them what you want. For instance, baby back ribs with rice and black beans, etc.. They also have sandwiches, carne asada, fish, and a lot more.

If you are in Silver Spring Area, you have to try this place. It has a latin grocery store and a nice homemade food and bakery from Colombia. I never tried it before, but the two times I came here the food was fresh and really delicious. I had Almojababas for the first time and they were delicious! they also have tamales, empanadas, pan de yuca, and the pollo guisado was tasty. As a peruvian, I will recomend this place to my friends.
